“Life Ain’t Fair and the World Is Mean” is a Sturgill Simpson song that takes a fresh look at what it means to be an outlaw, stating that he’s “swapped the truck out for a van” and that “ the most outlaw thing that I've ever done was give a good woman a ring.” Patrick’s cover comes from the heart and he adds his own twist changing the line: “you can always find me in a smokey bar with bad sound and a dim lit stage” to “you can always find me in a honky tonk with bad sound and a dim lit stage”.

“That’s How I Got to Memphis” is a Tom T. Hall song that Patrick has covered for years. Charley Crockett recently covered it, which has increased awareness of the song with a modern audience.
